When most people think of advertising and marketing, the archetype of the “Mad Men” era agency comes to mind. But with surprising speed, the rise of digital media (and the accompanying explosion of customer data) has revolutionized marketing. Using technology and data, marketers today can better understand their customers, deliver personalized one-to-one experiences, and drive significant bottom-line results. To achieve these goals, they now spend over $20 billion annually on marketing technology, a market that has grown by over 67 percent in just two years. And, wise to this trend as well, venture capitalists have invested over $21 billion in marketing technology.
Over the course of his 20 year consulting career, Dave Birckhead has been on the front lines of this digital marketing revolution. He’s worked with major companies like Capital One, and Allianz, and startups in the early, early days of the Web. From trailblazing e-commerce and data analytics to work with early inbound marketing and personalization, Dave has consistently been on the leading-edge of digital practices.
His ideas are helping to shape the future of marketing as well. “Marketing is going through the most significant, technology-fueled transformation in its history.” That’s the central thesis of Dave’s first e-book, The Epic Collision of Marketing & Data, providing an accessible, engaging primer on recent trends. His blog posts have been included in “must reads” by McKinsey & Co, and client executives have called him an “excellent strategist” and praised his “technology vision.”
Dave’s an engaging and dynamic speaker and has worked with numerous companies on digital, omni-channel engagement, marketing technology, customer intelligence and big data efforts. Today, he serves at the Global Head of Marketing Technology for Spotify.
